When you don’t have enough cash, a credit card might help you pay for immediate expenses. A credit card allows you to use funds for any purchase or expense up to the limit you choose. Following that, you have one month to make payments towards the used-up limit.

Credit cards are useful for both online and offline transactions. You no longer need to worry about carrying cash with you. Not only that, but you can get a variety of advantages and benefits with every purchase.

  • Rewards Credit Cards: These credit cards allow the cardholder to earn rewards points for each purchase or transaction.
Corporate credit cards are created for enterprises, limited companies, banks, and partnerships that require an account to track their expenses.
  • Cashback Credit Cards: This sort of credit card provides cashback for purchases made with the card.
Entertainment credit cards provide discounts and rewards for the purchase of entertainment products.
  • Lifestyle Credit Cards: These are often premium credit cards that include lifestyle perks such as golf club membership, exclusive dining privileges at partner restaurants, travel discounts, and so on.
  • Prepaid Credit Cards: These credit cards are comparable to debit cards but offer the perks of a credit card. You can deposit a specific amount into an account, which becomes your credit limit against which you can swipe the card. These credit cards are perfect for people with a poor credit score.
  • Travel credit cards are typically issued by banks or other financial institutions in collaboration with travel websites and airline operators. various cards provide unique savings and benefits for bookings made through various airlines and portals, such as air miles, access to airport lounges, reward points, travel insurance, extra luggage, and more.
  • Secured Credit Cards: As the name implies, credit cards are offered against a security deposit made by the cardholder. Customers with a low credit score can obtain these credit cards by creating a fixed deposit with the bank.
  • Student Credit Cards: These cards are offered to college students aged 18 and up. They are valid for five years and feature extremely low credit card interest rates and credit limits. Many banks provide these cards as add-ons to their parents’ credit cards.

  • Download and install the app to your phone.
  • To log into the app, enter your customer ID.
  • As with a net banking portal, you may examine all credit card information.
  • To pay your credit card bills, navigate to the credit card tab and select the “Credit Card Payment” option.
  • You can use the mobile app to access your savings account and pay or transact from anywhere.

The minimum monthly income required to apply for a credit card is Rs 20,000. However, this may differ by lender.

Every credit card has a revolving credit limit above which you cannot make a transaction. Banks authorise these limits based on their eligibility. You cannot use the card to spend more than your limit. When the limitations are renewed, the banks review them again. Banks can increase or decrease the credit limit based on usage and repayment history.

The Add-On Credit Card is a credit card issued to the principal applicant’s immediate family members. The Add-On cards have no different limits. Family members can use this card independently, but only within the restrictions of their primary credit card.

Every card has an interest-free period that is determined by the billing cycle and payback due date. It usually lasts from 20 to 52 or 55 days. If you pay in whole on or before the due date, there will be no interest. However, if you make a partial payment, the remaining debt will accrue interest. Credit card interest rates vary by bank. Usually, it ranges between 3% and 3.5% per month.

You need a credit score of 750 or above to be eligible for most credit cards.

A poor credit score usually means you won’t be approved for a conventional credit card. However, there are other alternatives to obtaining a credit card, such as applying for a secured credit card or an add-on credit card.

It is a fundamental notion. Credit cards provide an interest-free period ranging from 20 days to 52 to 55 days, depending on the billing cycle. Every month, the bank sends you a credit card bill. You should pay the complete sum to take advantage of the interest-free period in the next billing cycle. However, you might choose to make a partial payment on the account. Every bill requires a minimum credit card payment (typically 5% of the outstanding balance). You can pay an amount equal to or greater than the minimum payment due to take advantage of the Credit Card limits. The difference between the bill amount and the payment you make is subject to interest ranging from 3% to 3.5% per month.

Debit cards allow you to spend money by drawing from funds you’ve deposited at the bank, whilst credit cards allow you to borrow money from the card issuer up to a certain limit to buy products or withdraw cash. A debit card deducts money from your savings account immediately, whereas a credit card allows you to transact now and pay later or before the due date.

Some common types of credit cards are:

  • Secured credit card
  • Prepaid credit card
  • Add-on credit card
  • Entertainment credit card
  • Lifestyle credit card
  • Rewards credit card
  • Corporate credit card
  • Cashback credit card
  • Travel credit card
  • Student credit card
  • Lifetime free credit card

When the limitations are renewed, the banks review them again. Banks can increase or decrease the credit limit based on usage and repayment history.

Yes. Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted internationally. However, it is preferable to ask your credit card provider regarding global acceptance and bring a widely recognised credit card.

The CVV (Card Verification Value) number is written on the reverse side of each card. It’s commonly a three-digit number. American Express cards contain a four-digit CVV number stamped on the front. The CVV number is a fraud prevention mechanism.

Depending on the credit card’s characteristics, every transaction earns reward points that can be used for fuel, shopping, airline tickets, and so on. Reward points can be redeemed through your net banking account, during payment options on various partner online shopping portals, when making credit card payments at the partner merchant’s store, mobile app, or website of the card issuer, or by calling the card issuer’s customer service number. Every credit card issuer has its own redemption possibilities. Look for the card’s redemption terms on the issuer’s website or in the credit card paperwork.

Almost every credit card has a cash withdrawal limit. Any ATM allows you to withdraw quick cash up to the limit. Banks levy a cash withdrawal fee on each withdrawal, which can range from 2.5% to 3.5% of the total amount withdrawn. This cash advance option earns interest from day one.

The value of 1 reward point can be 10 paise to Re 1, depending on the terms of the credit card issuer.
